Return to Mass – June 14th, 2020

June 7, 2020 by Heather

June 4th, 2020

Dear St. Therese Parishioners,

We want to provide you with an update regarding resuming Mass in person on Sunday, June 14th at 9:00am. An ad hoc committee has been working on a plan that will allow us to keep everyone as safe as possible when we welcome you back to Mass. Please remember that the situation is ever evolving and we will be making adjustments as needed over time.
We will continue to “Zoom,” record, and post our 9:00am Mass for the time being so that those who are unable or uncomfortable joining us in person can still worship with us. If you are not receiving the email with the weekly link, please let Heather in the Parish Office know and she will make sure your email is on the distribution list. Please also check your SPAM folder and mark her email address (heather@sttheresemke.org) as a safe sender.
The details of the plan, formed based on directives from the Archdiocese, are listed below:
Return to Mass Guidelines and St. Therese Congregation

  • We will start with Mass on Sunday mornings at 9:00am only.
  • Attendance at each individual Mass is limited to no more than 25 percent of occupancy permit, which equals 50 people at our parish.
    • Those wishing to attend Mass should RSVP via phone call to the Parish Office or SignUpGenius (link on the St. Therese website) by 12:00pm every Thursday. Reservations are first come, first serve.
    • Reservations are limited to 40 people.
    • We are leaving an additional 10 spaces open for visitors or parish members who decide to come at the last minute.
    • We understand that those who are more vulnerable (i.e. 60+ years of age, those with compromised immune systems, those with underlying health conditions, those who are especially anxious about being in a large group, etc.) may decide to stay at home.
    • Please don’t feel pressured to return to Mass until you are ready. The obligation to attend Sunday Mass is dispensed through Sunday, July 5th.
  • Those attending Mass will enter through the Bluemound Entrance ONLY.
    • Cones will be placed at 6 foot increments up the ramp as you approach the door. Please use them as a guide to help you socially distance.
    • All other doors will be locked. (Mass attendees will be able to exit from any door in the event of an emergency.)
    • Signage directing attendees to the Bluemound entrance will be placed at all other entrances.
  • The bathroom at the Bluemound entrance of the church will remain open. However, we ask that it only be used if absolutely necessary. If the bathroom is used during Mass, it will be sprayed with Lysol and remain closed for 10 minutes to allow surfaces to disinfect and dry per CDC guidelines and product use instructions.
  • We will use air conditioning if needed however, windows will be open during Mass for air circulation.
  • There will be NO holding hands during the Our Father and no shaking hands during the Sign of Peace.

When You Enter The Church:

  • Bluemound entrance doors will be propped open.
  • Attendees will be greeted in the doorway.
  • Attendees will be reminded to remain six feet apart.
  • Attendees will wear a mask. If attendees do not have a mask, one will be provided before they enter Church.
  • Attendees will be directed to use hand sanitizer as they enter.
  • Attendees will be ushered to their seats as they arrived either individually or as a family group. We will begin seating in the back of the church, closest to the sacristy, and work out towards Bluemound entrance.

  • A large basket will be placed at the Bluemound entrance for your contributions. There will NOT be a formal collection during the Mass. Please place your contribution in the basket before Mass or after Mass. You may also sign up to use our new online giving system. The link is on our website: www.sttheresemke.org.

  • Per the Archbishop, Communion is to be distributed in the hand ONLY!
  • Gluten Free Hosts will be consecrated and available.
  • Communion will be distributed in the pews.
    • If you want to receive the Eucharist, you will be asked to stand.
    • Fr. Joe will move through the church and will distribute the Eucharist.
    • Once the host is placed in the recipient’s hand, they will wait until Fr. Joe is 6 feet away, then they will remove their mask, consume the host, and then replace their mask and sit down.

When Leaving Church After Mass

  • Attendees will be ushered out of church to maintain social distancing. Attendees will be ushered out from pews closest to Bluemound entrance until church is emptied
  • Bluemound doors will be opened for exit.
  • Do not congregate in the church, especially in high traffic areas.
  • Please exit the church, maintaining social distancing, in an orderly fashion.

Please note, that by reserving a spot at Mass, you are agreeing to abide by all of the directives listed above.

We appreciate everyone’s feedback and patience during this time. Please direct any questions to Heather Goeden in the Parish Office at (414) 771-2500 x2 or heather@sttheresemke.org.
